Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS)
The Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS) is an integrated service to help people with their legal and social needs.

The Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS) is a free service providing assistance to families with family law matters who have been affected by family violence. This service includes the FASS Duty Lawyer Service and the FASS Social Support Service.

Services Included
THE FASS DUTY LAWYER CAN:

Assist with legal advice, information and referrals in relation to family law matters, family violence matters and child protection matters;
Draft simple court documents in matters involving allegations of family violence;
Help you gather information and evidence about family violence;
Provide representation in court to assist you to progress your matter where there are allegations of family violence;
Provide representation in court in urgent interim matters where there have been allegations of family violence;
Assist you with advice and advocacy where you may have family violence and/or child protection matters in the state Magistrates Courts as well as matters in the Family Law Courts.

THE FASS DUTY LAWYER CANNOT:

Complete complex documentation and affidavits in non-urgent matters;
Represent you in contravention applications and final hearings;
Appear or be appointed as an Independent Children’s Lawyer;
Offer ongoing assistance.

THE FASS SOCIAL SUPPORT WORKER CAN:

Assist in safety planning and risk assessment when attending court;
Assist in liaising with court staff and security staff;
Provide court support before, during and after court;
Provide referrals to other social service providers;
Provide co-ordination and assistance in relation to dealing with other social service providers.

THE FASS SOCIAL SUPPORT WORKER CANNOT:

Provide legal advice or legal assistance;
Provide ongoing counselling
